With a small but loyal following on Youtube, a Swedish musician gained notice with his melodies and his ability to play a wide variety of musical instruments (Including guitar, kazoo, accordion, flute, and many others), Fredrik Larsson (A.K.A. FreddeGredde) released his first album called “Thirteen Eight” in 2011.
It was a good progressive rock album with really well-thought out lyrics. The one thing that it lacked was a real focus. The album jumped around with what kind of messages it wanted to say, or what type of stories to tell.
Then, on July 14, 2014, FreddeGredde released his second album “Brighter Skies,” which has the same amazing sound and flow, but also has the focus the first album lacked. Most of the songs revolve around the same idea and FreddeGredde uses that to create an amaz- ing musical journey. It’s only seven tracks long, but given that the last song, “Ocean Mind,” is a large eighteen minute long epic, it sure doesn’t feel short.
If progressive rock isn’t your cup of tea, then it might not be the best thing you’ve listened to, but it’s definitely worth a try. You can find both of FreddeGredde’s albums on his Bandcamp page (freddegredde.band- camp.com) for $15 each, or you can head to the CD store on his website where you can buy physical copies for around the same price plus shipping.
