The men and women of the Southwest Minnesota State University track and field teams competed in the Drake Alternative meet, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College, on Saturday, April 26.
Three individuals on the men’s team earned first place finishes in their respective events. Alejandro Sanchez, a redshirt freshman, finished in first place in the 800-meter with a time of 1:55.27. OJ Ojullu also captured a first place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:05.93. Rounding out the first place finishes was Ben Tonsager, who finished on top in the shot put with a throw of 15.43.
Also placing for SMSU was Austin LaFollette, who finished in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.62. Dallin Finley finished in fourth place in the 100-meter run with a time of 11.19.
For the SMSU women, Samantha McNeel recorded a seventh place finish in the long jump at 4.9 meters. Also for the Mustangs was Makayla Saathoff, who finished in eighth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.
