April 8, 2014 – Nintendo released the Super Smash Bros. Direct as part of the Nintendo Direct video series. The Nintendo Direct series is made to get news and current happenings from Nintendo out to its fans. As the name implies, the Super Smash Bros. Direct was a video dedicated to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games. Super Smash Bros. is a video game fighting series that started all the way back in 1999 on the Nintendo 64 platform. The game pits certain Nintendo stars and mascots, like Mario, Link and Kirby, against each other in a variety of fights. Since 1999 there has been a sequel to on every console release, including the Nintendo Gamecube, and the Wii. But this time instead of just one game getting a release on the new console, the Wii U, a handheld version of the game will come out on the Nintendo 3DS. The two games will complement each other, have abilities to transfer certain data between the two, but also have certain elements special to each other.
The news that came out on April 8th revealed a host of new characters that will be appearing on the new games. This is always a big deal with fans, which Nintendo takes full advantage of. Nintendo doesn’t reveal all the new characters right away, but in small amounts, giving the fans something to look forward to as the game gets completed. Some characters are never revealed until the game comes out. One of the new characters revealed on the 8th was Greninja, which is a Pokemon from the recent Pokemon games. Other new characters include Little Mac from the Punch Out! series, villager from the Animal Crossing series, and Mega Man from the Mega Man series.
