Google stepped up their game this April Fools day by “releasing” an upgraded map for Android and iOS phones known as Google Maps’ Pokémon Challenge. Google Maps released an official looking video showing how the game worked and set a deadline of Apr. 2. The person who collected the most Pokémon using Google Maps would be recognized by Google as a Pokémon Master.
Sadly, this awesome idea was only an April Fools Day joke.
Reactions from YouTube were passionate.
“Don’t they have any idea this could be actually awesome?!” said one YouTube commenter.
“Dear Google,” said another YouTuber. “You can stop now. It’s not funny at all mocking my all-time dream of becoming a real Pokémon Master.
A majority of people who have watched Google’s video agree it was a good prank, and that it should be made into a real game.
How will Google trump this year’s joke? We will just have to sit back and wait to find out.
