Join in on a day of food, fashion, culture and experience as the United Global Leaders Yearning for Success (UGLYS) host the fifth annual Culture Shock Thursday, April 3 from 2 to 9 p.m. in the upper level student center, with the dance portion in the RA Facility.
The event will feature a number of special performers as well as the cultures and backgrounds of Southwest Minnesota State University students, faculty and staff.
Performers for Culture Shock, themed “Freedom Riders” this year, will include Gaunte, a two-time National Poetry Slam champion, writer and hip-hop artist; Betty Mae Fikes, a 1960’s civil rights movement icon and member of the SNCC Freedom Singers; Tou Ger Xiong, a Hmong artist and activist; Zarifa Roberson, founder of ‘i.d.e.a.l.’ magazine; and the Asian Media Access dance group. Henna art, a fashion show and dance performances will be included.
Club sponsors include the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Hmong Student Organization, Oyate Club, Club Latino, African Student Association, Black Student Union and the UGLYS.
