The Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team holds a 12-5 record as their 2013-2014 regular season came to a close Saturday, Feb. 22.
Much like their last game against Northern State Feb. 7, SMSU managed to come close to a complete shut-out against the University of Mary this past weekend with a final score of 44-3 leading them to a third place finish in the conference.
Nine of ten Mustangs pulled out wins for the team, easily defeating the University of Mary. Seniors Andrew Rodas, Justin Reinsma, Codie Lane, Micah Larson, William Dean, Travis Peralta and Ethan Hildebrant had their last regular season meet for SMSU, with several seniors taking wins for the team against U-Mary.
Mustangs winning by major decision/decision include Antonio Meikel, Lane, Kyle Begin and Jacob Begin. U-Mary’s Alec Lindsay won by decision over SMSU’s Ethan Hildebrant, giving U-Mary’s its only score for the meet.
Five SMSU Mustangs – Reinsma, Beau Buysse, Peralta, Larson and Cole Wilson – won by pinning their opponents in the meet.
The SMSU Mustangs will continue on with their first post-season NCAA Regional game in Edmond, Okla. The regional games will be held Feb. 28-March 1.
