Everything your childhood remembered and more.
The earlier 1987 Robocop was by most accounts a relatively cheesy movie with some very campy lines like, “Can you fly Bobby?” As Red Forman from That 70’s Show throws Bobby out the back end of a van.
The biggest difference between the 1987 Robocop and the reboot, besides his paint job, is the relative feeling of seriousness the movie conveys.
Robocop attempts to tackle some major problems. One of the issues it brings up is this: should we be using more drones in place of human soldiers? In our world today where the United States has been pushing the use of more and more Drones (unmanned planes) the issue is real and relevant. With a history of civilian causalities and inaccuracy in identifying its target, Drone usage stays as a constant lead in the news.
Besides a future that looks like it might not be that far off, the movie all together is well done. It has some good humor with Joel Kinnaman, who plays Robocop. Senior actors Gary Oldman and Micheal Keaton bring good depth to the cast. The action scenes are not overdone, and are the right amount for a movie of its length. In contrast to the original action scenes, which at times appeard comical.
If you are looking for a movie to go out and see this next weekend then Robocop should be on your list. It’s a movie that everyone in your family can enjoy.
