Bo Burnham is a fairly famous musical stand-up comic that got to be known on Youtube for his songs before getting a deal with Comedy Central to make his first show “Words Words Words” in 2010.
Bo’s did his first show when he was 18 years old, making him one of the youngest stand-up comics to get commercially famous. In December 2013, Bo released his second show called “what.” for free on Youtube and also to Netflix. In October of 2013, Bo released his first book of poetry titled “Egghead: Or, You Can’t Survive on Ideas Alone.” The book is filled with poems by Bo and illustrations by Chance Bone. Most of the poems are of a comedic nature, while others may hide behind a funny surface while saying a serious message. Many of the poems are crude, which is just like how Bo Burnham is on stage.
This is not a serious book of poetry. You should not go into this book hoping to take on huge issues, change your mind on things, or make you see something in a new light. Regardless, it might end up doing that with some of its poems. This book is meant to be something to laugh at, to pick up and just enjoy the funny commentary and giggle at the drawings on each page. If you’re looking for a good laugh that you can share with the people around you, give “Egghead” a try. And remember,
“If you’re writing is silly and dumb,
make sure that it rhymes at the end. Bum.”
