Six groups are to compete in the Chili Cook-Off, with all attendees able to enjoy each one as the Campus Religious Center (CRC) seeks to raise funds for the building as well as leadership students.
The CRC will be hosting this event Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 5-7:30 p.m. Sponsors for this event include the CRC Board, the Lutherans and the Newman Club. Total cost will be $7. Attendees can pay at the door or in advance at the CRC.
“This is an important fundraiser for the building because it cost quite a bit to keep this up and running. On top of that we want students to be growing and equipped to help others grow in there faith. That is why it is important to have fundraisers to send the students on leadership conferences,” said Jordyn Kalthoff, senior.
Maura Byrnes, inspirational speaker, will follow the Cook-Off in the Conference Center.
A graduate of Seton Hall University in N.J., Byrnes went on to Varsity Catholic and worked as a “Catholic missionary to bring the love of the Gospel to student-athletes on college campuses, since she was a collegiate athlete herself,” according to Kalthoff. Byrnes went on to launch Made in His Image, whose mission is to “begin a dialogue, a discussion, in a safe and compassionate setting, to foster hope and healing, and to empower women to turn from victim to survivor.”
“Maura has an immense yearning to inspire others to choose to see beauty in their suffering and in the ambiguity of life. It is her desire to use her story, to foster hope and healing in the lives of all she encounters,” Kalthoff said.
