On the night of Dec. 5, Southwest Minnesota State University hosted its annual Casino Night.
Every year has its own unique theme; this year’s being the Roaring 20’s – a tribute to the Great Gatsby movie released earlier this year.
The place was filled with students the moment the doors opened with a number of games to play including roulette, Texas hold ‘em, human slot machine, and many more. Black Jack was one of the more popular games of the evening, with around four or five tables playing and people waiting in line for their chance to play.
Students received around $3,000 worth of chips and, over the course of the night, could turn in those chips to be entered into a drawing at the end of the night. $5,000 was the amount needed to be able to submit a name for drawing once.
Including the drawing at the end of the night, there were also door prizes for just showing up. Before entering the room, students had to put their name into a box and, throughout the night, the patrons of the night would draw names and reward people with brown bags of goodies.
During these drawings there were some pranksters out there because names like “Stewie Griffin,” and “Stephanie Mayer” would pop up.
In case students were getting tired and wanted to rest, a back area was included at Casino Night. This area had snacks and drinks being handed out for free, including mini hotdogs, mock-tails, cheese and crackers, and cookies shaped like cards and poker chips.
