For the first time since 2008, the Southwest Minnesota State University women’s basketball team scored over 100 points to defeat Crown College with a whopping score of 101-43. In 2008, the Mustangs defeated the University of Minnesota-Morris with 105 points scored.
The Mustangs scored 53 points in the first half, outscoring the Crown College Storm by 36 points. The Storm never took the lead in the first half, nor did they even tie the score. This marks the first time the Mustangs have scored 50+ points in half since they faced Dordt in 2009.
In the second half, the Mustangs recorded 58 points, while the Storm put up 26 points for a final score of 101-43. The Mustangs shot 45.7 percent throughout the contest, with 37 field goals.
The Mustangs were led by Allison Nagel, who scored 28 points in her 16 minutes of playing time. Nagel was followed by Annessa Rosch, who tied her career-high of 17 points. Bree Holleman put up 12 points to round out the Mustangs’ double-digit scorers. A deep bench helped the Mustangs pick up the win. In fact, the Mustangs’ bench scored a total of 43 points, compared to the Storm bench, who scored 11 points. 11 of the 13 Mustangs that played in the game scored.
Hannah Beeler pulled down 10 rebounds and put up eight points, just two points shy of a double-double. As a team, the Mustangs pulled down 58 rebounds.
Defensively, the Mustangs forced 28 turnovers. They also picked up 15 steals. Offensively, the Mustangs recorded 21 assists, led by Holleman’s six.
