Culinology majors Eric Iserman (senior), Katie Langel (junior), Alissa Partain (senior) and Erin Badzinski (junior) are seeking the help of the public to find a name for their product in an extra-curricular cooking competition.
Through the Research Chef Association, an annual competition is held where students must meet specific criteria for the chance to win a $4,000 first place award.
This year, teams must use Pacific Northwest cuisine in a grab-and-go food truck style, while also addressing the sodium concerns in grades 9-12.
Badzinski and her team created pierogi for the competition this year, which includes a base of potato and parsnips, smoked gouda cheese, fish and mushrooms. The team created three types: traditional style, Mexican style and Asian style.
Though the team is nearing the finishing line of their product, they are looking for a little help on the naming portion.
The group must include a reason for why the name of the product was chosen as part of the competition.
“My team and I are struggling with [finding] a name, so we are reaching out to the public. This will be served to students, so we wanted to know what they thought was appealing,” Badzinski said.
The person/s who’s product name is deemed best will recieve a $25 gift card to the Brau Bros. Brewing Company in Marshall.
“I competed last year and was part of the winning team. I fell in love with the research and development side…it was more hands-on. It was nice to work with technical ingredients,” Badzinski said.
