The entire season comes down now to just a few games in the post-season. SMSU women’s soccer team heads to Upper Iowa for the first game of the playoffs. They are heading into the game with an impressive 14-2-2 record. The last two weekends have been the biggest test of our girls so far this season. Having to play Mankato State and Augustana College.
On October 26th the Mustangs went 3-0 against Concordia, St. Paul, where Justine Hauck, Vanessa Corona, and Miranda Cadena all had a goal. Miranda also had an assist and Kendahl Fisher had two assists. That brings Miranda up to 11 goals this season! That is almost one goal a game!
Then the on the 27th the Mustangs held their ground against our strongest opponent to date, Mankato State. And tied it up. Brienna Dehkes had an amazing 12 saves vs. Mankato and was the key player on defense. Which is what we wanted to see from our goalie who has a save percentage of 88.6%.
Then on November 2nd we tied up again with Wayne State. This was a surprising game considering the difference in time of possession. The Mustangs had 20 shots compared to Wayne States 4.
Then we took a hard lose. Losing to Augustana College in the second half. Augustana is probably the second best team we played this season. And it is tough lesson to be learning going into the playoffs this weekend.
These past two weekends have not been that amazing for the Mustangs soccer team and if they want to come out with a win over Upper Iowa, they need to put the last two weeks behind them. They need to focus and go in playing to win it.
