The women’s soccer team was going into this last week coming off of its first loss this season versus Winona State. They had a 10-1-0 record going into their games on the 19 and 20, where they played Moorhead and Northern State.
In their game against Upper Iowa on the 12, Miranda Cadena scored the winning goal early in the first half at the eleventh minute of the game, and the defense took care of the rest stopping Upper Iowa from scoring a single goal.
The Winona game was a tough loss for the team. Down to the last minute, the women’s soccer team desperately tried to pull their offense together, but in the end a lucky shot by Winona was enough to synch the victory at 1-0.
It is always difficult to go into a game after a loss, but that didn’t seem to have negative effect on the women’s soccer team, where they won back-to-back away games – 3-1 and 2-1, respectively. Justine Hauck, Vanesa Corona, and Natalie Zobel each had a goal in the game versus Moorhead. That came down to simply position of the ball. The Mustangs shot the ball on goal a total of twelve times for a total of twenty shots. Whereas Moorhead had only four shots on goal with a total of eight shots.
Can you say CLUTCH! Because on the 20 they went clutch-mode, winning the game in double overtime. This game was as heated as the Winona game just the week before, but this time Cadena was not accepting a loss and, with twenty seconds left on the clock, she scored the game-winning goal.
