If a few weeks ago you were all like, “man where can I go see a lot of artists of multiple genres who all share a similar message—for free?”, then on August 30th you should have camped out at Life Lights 16th Annual music festival. They had performances by The City Harmonics, Plumb, Flyleaf, For Today and many more.
I personally got to see The City Harmonics perform. Although I was not a fan of the Canadian front man Elias Dummer and his all-denim attire, his performance and energy was fantastic. Some of the year’s worst heat was not enough to stop him from jumping around stage and getting the crowd pumped.
My favorite performance of the festival was For Today, a Metal/Screamo band out of Iowa. Before I saw them preform I had some serious reservations because I am not a big fan of either the Metal or Screamo genera and I doubted that a Metal/Screamo band could be a Christian band at the same time. Well, long story short I had my reservations blown away. Not only was I impressed by the band’s musical talents, especially Mattie Montgomery’s clear vocals, I was impressed by the way they had their faith as the central focus of their band’s message, which quelled my suspicions.
There was a lot more than just music at Life Light. It featured, for the first time this year, “Flow Action Sports,” which was a combination of X-games style sports, such as BMX, Motocross, and open skate. They even had several sessions of skateboard lessons.
And if you ever got hungry, there was plenty to eat. You had your typical county-fair type foods. The only thing missing was butter on a stick. There were several stands where you could buy memorabilia, and even one that gave out free bibles.
In short, if you are looking for an event that has a little bit of everything and is free admission, then Life Light is a great choice.
