One of the side effects of being a college student is eating a lot of fast food. Unfortunately, living in Marshall tends to create cravings that cannot be fulfilled.
Sometimes a person just needs a Crunch-Wrap from Taco Bell. Or a steak bowl from Chipotle. Or a Baconator from Wendy’s. None of which are anywhere near SMSU.
There’s no Taco Bell, White Castle, Wendy’s, Chipotle, or Quizno’s in Marshall. They’re all popular restaurants, but for some reason they are not within a reasonable distance. Marshall’s a small town, so the lack of fast food restaurants is expected but disappointing nonetheless.
The range of fast food joints in Marshall seems wide at first glance, but by junior year, nothing is appealing anymore. Not to mention some of the best options aren’t available. Where is Taco Bell? Where is Wendy’s? These are things I will never get over.
What I find hard to understand is why there is no Taco Bell or Wendy’s in Marshall when both rank as some of the largest fast food chain’s in the U.S. Similar restaurants won’t do the trick either. When a craving for a Dorito’s Locos taco arises, Taco Johns just won’t suffice.
The nights when you can’t make it to the diner or you feel the need to order in are easily hampered by the fact that there aren’t very many fast food options near SMSU. Or maybe just not the one’s that I want. One can only enjoy so many Whoppers before they finally get fed up. Pun intended.
Some will argue that the solution would be to stop eating fast food, but where’s the fun in that? Attempting to avoid cravings altogether is how monsters are created. Maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but a lack of chocolate malts from Wendy’s tends to cloud judgment.
Most of the best fast food restaurants are nowhere to be found in Marshall. Maybe it’s time to start a petition and beg for a Chipotle or maybe I’ll just continue to cry myself to sleep from a lack of good food.
